I really couldn’t let this most democratic of days pass without an impartial (at least I’m going to attempt this) comment on the election, and this comes in the form of the brilliant Sky News adverts. Never have politics and musical editing come together in such an amazing and amusing way.

It all started with this:

The Ballot Ballad. Genius. There’s really nothing more to say here.

And then came this:

Now Ed Balls’ name has been an unfortunate but hilarious part of recent politics, I’m sure it was always somewhat of a playground joke (that’s not me describing modern British politics by the way, I mean an actual playground), but never has it been so effectively used as in the above advert, sorry, rap.

Elections can sometimes feel like a full on sensory assault, for about a month you can’t turn on the TV or radio without hearing the RP accent of a political party leader, open a newspaper or magazine without seeing the well-practised “trust me” face of a politician staring back at you, or walk down the street without passing damning billboards of political one-upmanship. What Sky have done here is make that fact amusing, and thus make it more accessible, and in a way more real to the general public than the serious interviews and comments that we see the rest of the time.

Hats off to you Sky News! Nice work.
